Helen Kahlke

Helen Kahlke has been playing the saxophone for more than 20 years. She has played in a wide variety of musical settings, including: rock, blues, R&B, jazz, Latin, concert, dance, and swing bands, as well as sax ensembles and small combos. She has also done studio and solo work. In 2006 she formed the Bassic Sax Jazz Ensemble. Helen is the newest member of Deception, having joined in 2005.

When not playing sax with Deception, Helen is busy writing regular articles for her website, Bassic Sax. The site’s name pays homage to Helen’s 1922 Buescher bass saxophone, that she bought in 2000 in New Orleans. Helen flew to New Orleans to buy the sax, and it flew home in the seat next her as a paying passenger.

Helen is a vintage sax enthusist, and is very knowledgable about a variety of very obscure German, Italian, and French saxophones. Over the years Helen has acquired a number of these instruments, and regularly uses some of them in her work with Deception

Helen’s knowledge and expertise in vintage saxophones has led her to becoming a Content Expert/Moderator on the Woodwind Forum. There she regularly provides the members with insight and suggestions. She sees this as an extension of what she does on her website, where she routinely responds to emails from around the world asking for advice and input about saxophones.

    Hi Helen,

This is the reply I got back from Gerald re: the new Blues Society. I’ll check into it some more and report to everybody at the next practice.

    Cheers,
    Randy

    Hi Randy

We had a meeting at Compass Point Inn in Surrey to initiate and kick-off the Vancouver Blues Society. The society is now official and is taking memberships. It is great to finally have a major blues society in our neighborhood and I have become a member too. If you can’t find the web page for it check with James Rogers. He is on Facebook or you can find his website. Be cool to jam with ya again Randy.

    Good cheers.

    Gerald
